news: 25 Million Using Encompass

29-Oct, An increase of 10 million over one year

Now Serving 25 Million
iModules reaches 25 million users, an increase of 10 million over one year

Through Encompass, iModules’ clients now reach 25 million members and supporters online in their Encompass-hosted Web sites. This is a substantial increase for iModules, which was hosting sites reaching 15 million members in 2008 and 6.2 million in 2007.

While iModules has a history of continual growth, we are especially happy this year to succeed in providing more clients with services and tools that prove valuable during a down economy. Using Encompass, our clients build strong relationships through online engagement and communication, which helps them save costs and time in other areas such as traditional print communications and administrative management.

“The most valuable aspect is that iModules allows us to administer our programming and our communication with alumni in a much more efficient manner that is cost effective, timely, current, creative, and relevant. We’re able to reinvent the sort of programming we’re able to do because of the tools iModules provides,” said Timothy State from Lake Forest College.

During a time when people are more cautious of how they spend their money and time, our clients have been able to maintain close relations with their constituents through personalized and targeted communications. This type of communication has allowed clients to see continued participation and success in events and campaigns throughout the last year.

“Our site traffic has tripled in the last six months since we started doing more on the site, and more is planned for the future,” said Kyle Beckley from SUNY College at Oneonta.

Moving into 2010, iModules expects to see continued growth as we strengthen our partnerships, develop new products and services to help clients succeed, and continue to partner with clients to help them accomplish their goals.

“I am very pleased with our accomplishments over the last year, including partnering with SunGard Higher Education, releasing groups technology, and being the first in the industry to implement Facebook Connect on our sites,” said Tom DeBacco, CEO of iModules. “We have some exciting plans for 2010 that will continue to deliver even better results to our clients.”

news: Campaign Slogans

28-Oct, Strategies for results

Crafting the Perfect Fundraising Slogan

A campaign slogan does more than describe your fundraising campaign. It leaves a lasting (and hopefully, positive) impression on your donors. Your fundraising slogan can be the most important tool in marketing your organization’s campaign and should not be overlooked during planning.

In general, campaign slogans can be categorized into four different groups:

Descriptive slogans describe a key feature or benefit of the giving campaign. Straightforward taglines like “Giving back since 1896” and “Building a better campus one gift at a time” are common descriptive slogans.

Superlative slogans exaggerate or embellish, calling your donors to action. “The future of our school depends on you” and “The greatest gift you can give” are both examples of basic superlative slogans.

Imperative slogans give donors a command, such as “Make an impact” or “Change your school.” Short and sweet, these slogans sometimes have the greatest impact.

Provocative slogans ask a question or call for reflection. “What change do you envision?” and “How can you make a difference?” are general provocative slogans.

Often, the easiest way to brainstorm slogans is to say the same message in each of these different tones. Just like that, you’ve turned one idea into four! It also makes it easy to determine which tone has the best ring to it and communicates your message in the best light.

Some of the most effective campaign slogans adopt a figure of speech, such as rhyme (“Donate in ‘08”), alliteration (“Campaign for a connected campus”), or pun (2009 Library Fund - “Book your donation today”). A catchy slogan is not only memorable, but also puts a fun and positive spin on your campaign.

It’s also important to consider how your slogan will be visually expressed within a logo. Your constituents not only hear your slogan, but also see it on your Web site, in your e-mails and e-newsletters, and on fliers and postcards. Often times, the visual image of your campaign logo is just as important as the slogan itself.

Remember, when it comes to crafting a campaign slogan, there really are no rules. The most important thing to consider is that your slogan communicates your organization’s message and sets the desired tone for your campaign. A meaningful, memorable, and positive slogan can make a world of difference in your campaign success.

news: Getting the Most out of Your E-newsletter

23-Sept, Four Basic Strategies for Success

E-Newsletters: Four Basic Strategies for Success

An e-newsletter can be your organization’s greatest ally — or its worst enemy. When done effectively, it can be a resource for your readers, a showcase for your organization, and an excellent communication tool between the two of you. However, without adequate planning, e-newsletters can fail to make an impact and will most likely get ignored by (or worse, irritate) your constituents. To ensure your e-newsletter is successful, remember these general strategies:

Know who you’re talking to and why you’re talking
What is your agenda with your constituents? Is it retaining alumni? Increasing event registrations and revenue? Boosting donations? Whatever it is, your e-newsletter should address that in ways that will make your audience respond. Always write in a conversational tone and make it personalized for different audiences. For example, highlight a happy hour for younger alumni and a family day for older alumni. As with any good form of communication, targeting your audience is one of the most important things to consider when sending e-newsletters.

Build value
Newsletters should always add value to your organization, to your alumni, and to your relationships. Remember the “3 E’s” of building value — Entertainment, Education, and E-coupon. Entertain your readers with a poll, survey, or interactive application. Educate with informative articles about what’s going on in your organization. Provide “E-coupons” by offering free gifts to subscribers or reduced fees for certain events. Readers should always gain something from your e-newsletters, even if it’s just a feeling of connection to your organization.

Look to the past
Some of the most important resources in planning your content are past e-newsletters. Look at your reports and metrics; see which articles and sections garnered the highest click-through rates; and find out what your readers are actually reading. Metrics can also be used to brainstorm new stories. If you notice an article had a high click-through rate, consider writing a follow-up on the topic or another closely related article in your next e-newsletter.

Keep it short, sweet, and scan-able
Most audiences prefer — and appreciate — a short, scan-able e-newsletter. The most effective e-newsletters are only one or two pages, with distinct sections and call-outs. Your stories should always be straightforward and brief. If the reader wants to know more, they can click the link to your Web site.

A great e-newsletter will not only inform, but also excite your readers about what’s going on in your community. With a good strategy and thoughtful planning, your e-newsletter can be your organization’s greatest tool.
